Supporting cycling in Sheffield

The Space for Cycling ride takes place this weekend in Sheffield and I am committed to seeing Sheffield as a city where everyone feels safer riding a bike.
Last year my company (Rotary Engineering) worked with the Council to adopt a 1m wide strip of our land along the side of the factory to make a cycle way on Old Lane in Halfway.
This means we have been able to contribute to safer cycling in the area and also to the “Connect 2” project Halfway to Killamarsh cycle ways.
My daughter, who lives in London and cycles to work there, was in Sheffield last weekend and commented on how few cyclists there are in Sheffield. Yes it’s hilly here, but the general volume of traffic is less than London, so should not be an insurmountable task for the Council to make a step change impact, if only they could be motivated to focus on it.
You can see that businessman like me are happy to do what we can to support these initiatives and, should I be elected to the council, I commit to work with Space for Cycling to try to get some pace and drive into the council priorities in this important area.
Finally, Space for Cycling have raised the issue of the poor state of our road surfaces and they are spot on! In my canvassing in Fulwood, it has come up time and time again as one of residents’ top gripes about the Council services.
